The Murdo Development Corp originated on May 20, 1988 for the purpose to promote, benefit, improve, and enhance the economic, social, and educational welfare of Jones County. In 2005 the Murdo Development Corp received a Revolving Loan Fund Grant from USDA for the purpose of creating or retaining employment opportunities in the Jones County area. Since then, the Murdo Development Corp has helped 9 business with start up funds or expansion opportunities. ​In 2022, the Murdo Development Corp invested alongside the City of Murdo, Murdo Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Jones County Community Foundation to create the role of the Murdo Area Economic Development Director. With this role, the Development Corp will continue in its efforts to help the Murdo Area thrive and grow.​
